Wed. 25 Resident’s Association Birthday Celebration, for those who celebrate their special day during the month of August, begins at 1:00 p.m. at Weller Circle Activity Center Please rsvp to Judy Piel or Dessie Ann Hann if you plan to attend.
Wed. 25 Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks video will be aired at 2:30 p.m. on CLV-TV channel 19. Great National Parks videos capture the miraculously interwoven tapestry of nature from our nation’s most impressive national treasures. Explore the wealth of geology and history, wilderness and wildlife, flora and fauna that form our breathtaking natural heritage.
Wed. 25 Pipe Creek Civil War Roundtable meets at 7:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center. Guest speaker is John Depen who will speak about Joshua Chamberlain.
Thu. 26 CLV Red Hat Ladies and Friends can enjoy trying on hats on at 10:30 a.m. in the Dance/Aerobics Room in the Wellness Center. Melissa Batten is bringing a collection of vintage hats and Red Hatters and friends are invited to bring their own hats for the event. The more, the merrier! Wed. 1 Resident Association Annual Meeting at 1:30 p.m. in the 205 Dining Room for the election of offices of Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Council. The current Vice President, Marion Geyer automatically assumes the office of President. Every resident is a member of the Resident Association and is encouraged to attend to show your support, for election of officers; recognition of current co-chairs and members of RAC committees; committee reports; and introduction of committee co-chairs for the coming year.
Wed. 1 Paul Seipp performs a program of guitar music and whistling at 2:30 p.m. in Krug Chapel Auditorium.
Wed. 1 Bingo players gather to try their luck at 7:00 p.m. in the 201 Activities Room.
Thu. 2 Carroll County Public Library Bookmobile will visit CLV today at two locations: 2:00-2:30 p.m. at 1000 Weller Circle and 2:40-3:15 p.m. at 201 St. Mark Way. Stop by to check out a book or learn about the many services the bookmobile offers.
Sat. 4 Saturday Shuttle departs today and every Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for Wal-Mart, Town Mall, and Giant Food. Contact the Transportation Office at 443-605-1010 to reserve your seat.
Sat. 4 The No Popcorn Theater film and discussion will meet today and on the first Saturday of each month in the 5th floor activities room, 205 at 1:00pm. We'll watch a movie and then discuss it. Mon. 6 Labor Day – Administrative Offices closed today. 205 Café will be open 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Bistro will be closed. There will be no evening meal service. Campus Shuttle will operate between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Call 410-984-6586 to request shuttle pick up. No Art or Tailoring. Wellness Center (gym & Pool) are closed. Piano/Organ Music Group will meet at 7:00 p.m. in the Music Practice Room.

Wed. 8 Grace Lutheran Brown Bag Bible Study resumes weekly meetings every Wednesday at 12:00. in the 201 Activities Room. This is a “common sense” approach to Bible study. Anyone is invited to bring your lunch and join the group. For more information, contact Elissa Streaker at 410-848-2557.
Wed. 8 League of Women Voters presents 2010 Primary Election Candidates’ Forum; Candidates for Carroll County Commissioner District 4. This is a DVD of the forum that was held on August 9 at Community Media Center. Forum will be broadcast on CLV-TV channel 19 at 2:30 p.m.
Wed. 8 Wednesday Evening Bible Study led by Katharine Dahlberg will resume weekly meetings tonight, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the 205 5th floor Multi Purpose Room. Attention new residents- All residents are invited. Agenda: 7 p.m. - Bible Study; 7:45 p.m. - Intercessory Prayer. Hope to see you there.
Thu. 9 One In Christ Community Prayer Service welcomes all at 7:00 p.m. in Krug Chapel Auditorium.
Fri. 10 Venture Outing to Irvine Nature Center located in the beautiful Caves Valley in Owing Mills. You will enjoy a naturalist-led program followed by a short hike on one of Irvine’s many trails. Bring your own lunch and a beverage. Cost is $7.00 which will be billed on monthly statement. Registration will begin on Wednesday, September 1 at 8:30 a.m. in the Wellness Center or by calling 443-605-1070. Departure will be at 9:00 a.m. from the Wellness Center. Fri. 10 Amateur Radio Club meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Multi Purpose Room. Come to learn more about “ham radio” and find out how you can become part of this group.
Fri. 10 U.S. History Series continues with commentary and discussion by Dahl Drenning at 2:30 p.m. in Krug Chapel Auditorium. This week’s topic is African Americans in Wartime.
Sun. 12 Outdoor Concert featuring the sounds of the Glade Valley Travelers with Dahl Drenning will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Garden of Memories. Bring your chairs, sit under the shade trees and enjoy music and fellowship.
Tue. 14 Carroll County Historical Society Box Lunch Talk will be held at Carroll Post American Legion in Westminster. This month’s topic is The Hoff Barn. The Maryland Historical Trust calls the Hoff Barn, circa 1794, “one of the most significant farm buildings in Carroll County.” Bob Jones will present the story of the log barn and its move to the Carroll County Farm Museum. Cost is $1.00 for Historical Society members and $4 for non-members, payable at the door. Bring a lunch; dessert and beverage will be provided. Lunches may be purchased from the Legion, but must be ordered by 11:30 a.m. the day of the lecture by calling 410-857-7953. CLV transportation will be provided. Reserve your seat on the bus by calling Pat Davis at 443-605-1025. Pick up will be at 11:00 a.m. We will return to CLV by 1:30 p.m.
Tue. 14 Free Blood Pressure Readings from 1:15-3:00 p.m. in the 205 Multi Purpose Room. This service, provided by Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, Inc., is available to all CLV residents.
Tue. 14 Craft Group resumes weekly meeting at 10:00 a.m. in 201 Activities Room. For more information, contact Doris Harry at 410-876-9150.
Wed. 15 Men’s Club tours M.S. Moeller Cabinetry & Millwork, Inc. in Westminster, makers of custom furniture, cabinetry, and millwork. After the tour, the group will have lunch at Cactus Willie’s, where each diner will pay for their own meal as they enter. Transportation provided by CLV bus. There is no charge for this local transportation. Reservations now accepted at Hospitality Concierge Desk or by calling 443-605-1094. Pick up will be at 9:30 a.m. at each residence. Group should return to CLV by 2:30 p.m.

Wed. 15 Thank You Reception will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the Library to share thanks for a job well done for retiring Library Committee co-chairs Gini Banta and Almea Schilling. All residents are invited to stop by the library during this time to give their thanks to this dynamic team of library volunteers who have earned a well deserved rest from their library responsibilities.

Cheri Schymansky and Melissa Sinor will discuss yearly request for resident information updates, emergency responses, Advanced Directives, Do Not Resuscitate Orders, hospitalizations/hospital discharge plans, and transitioning to other levels of residency. There will be time for questions at the end.

Thu. 16 CLV Travel Group meets in the 201 Activities Room at 2:30 PM. If you would enjoy traveling with CLV residents and friends, please attend three proposed trips for 2011 will be presented including a cruise. All residents are welcome. To tour with the Travel Group simply accept and abide by the TG guidelines and requirements. See you at the meeting and let's start planning for next year. Sat. 18 Installation of Bishop Woldfang D. Herz-Lane will be held at New Psalmist Baptist Church in Catonsville. Preacher and installing officer will be ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson. Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by a time for fellowship. CLV transportation will be provided. Sun. 19 Carroll Community Concert at Westminster High School for the first concert of the 2010-2011 season. Charter bus picks up at 2:00 p.m. for those who made prior reservations.

Thu. 23 CLV Ladies can learn about 19th Century women’s fashions at 10:30 a.m. in the Leisure Arts Room in Wellness Center. Docents from the Carroll County Farm Museum will model and answer questions on period dress. Get a close-up view of how these dresses were made, their fabric and patterns. Please reserve your space by calling Jodie Mullenax at 410-857-0049. This event will be canceled if fewer than 12 registrations are received by September 10. Suggested donation at the door, $4.00.

Most items are available “today” so you can take your purchase with you. Only one fashion print will be sold per community, so your look remains unique. Boutique will be open 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the 201 Activities Room. Linda’s Treasures accepts personal checks and cash. Credit and bank cards are not accepted at this time.

Fri. 24 Resident/Staff Shuffleboard Tournament begins at 10:00 a.m. at the shuffleboard courts near Cottage Gazebo across from 201 St. Mark Way. Contact Mary Jean if you want to compete this year. Bring your lawn chair to watch as residents defend their title. Who will take home the trophy this year? Come on out to cheer for all the teams. Rain date is Wednesday, September 29.
Sat. 25 Wellness Walk this year will benefit Friends of the Village. FOV is very active on CLV’s campus providing scholarships to staff members as well as routinely making large contributions to campus improvements including the new doors to Good Shepherd Way, the Fitness Gym, and a shuttle bus. In addition, FOV supports both residents and staff through providing volunteers throughout campus for daily or specific needs. Just like in past years the walk will include music, door prizes, refreshments and, of course, a healthy walk with your Village friends! To register, please visit the Wellness desk and pick-up a donation form. Walkers may solicit donations from friends, neighbors, and family members all of which will go to the Friends of the Village organization. The walk starts at 10 a.m. at Mission Square Gazebo. Bus departs at 9:30 a.m. and should return to CLV by 3:30 p.m. $4.00 transportation fee will be billed on monthly statement.
